EUGENE GLASS SCHOOL ARTIST
JENNY NEWTSON
Jenny Newtson has been playing with beads all her life, and always wanted to
play with glass. When she got to the University of Oregon in the early 1980’s,
there was no glass program so she learned metalsmithing and jewelry making.
Following up on a tip from a friend, she took her first workshop on glass
beadmaking at the Pratt Center for Fine Arts in Seattle, Wa., in 1991. At the
time, Jenny thought she would switch from jewelry making to glass beads – but
hasn’t been able to give up stringing the beads. Now, Jenny’s jewelry line
is sold under the name Firebrand Beads at art galleries on the Oregon coast,
fine jewelry stores, and at high-end craft shows. Jenny is a member of the
International Society of Glass Beadmakers, and follows the ISGB’s teaching
guidelines in her classes and workshops.
